Panic/Anxiety Attacks - Other Disorders

Panic attacks are also associated with the following disorders and can either be caused by these disorders, or the panic attack  can be responsible for triggering an associated disorder.

Agoraphobia
Not to be confused with agraphobia, agoraphobia is a condition where the sufferer becomes anxious in environments that are unfamiliar or where he or she perceives that they have little control. Triggers for this anxiety may include wide open spaces, crowds (social anxiety, or travelling (even short distances). Agoraphobia is often, but not always, compounded by a fear of social embarrassment, as the agoraphobic fears the onset of a panic attack  and appearing distraught in public.

Body Dysmorphic Disorder
Is a condition in which the sufferer can't stop thinking about a flaw with their appearance - a flaw that is usually minor or even imagined. But to sufferer, their appearance seems so shameful and distressing that they don't want to be seen by anyone. Body dysmorphic disorder has sometimes been called "imagined ugliness."

When a person has body dysmorphic disorder, they intensely obsess over their appearance and body image, often for many hours a day. They may seek out numerous cosmetic procedures to try to "fix" the perceived flaws but never are satisfied. Body dysmorphic disorder is also known as dysmorphophobia, or the fear of having a deformity.

Claustrophobia

Claustrophobia is defined as the fear of enclosed spaces. Faced with the impossibility of escape, the person suffering from claustrophobia fears being suffocated, being crushed, losing consciousness, or losing control of his actions

Generalised Anxiety Disorder
Generalised Anxiety Disorder is characterized by chronic feelings of excessive worry and anxiety without a specific cause. Individuals with generalized anxiety disorder often feel on edge, tense, and jittery. Someone with generalized anxiety disorder may worry about minor things, daily events, or the future. These feelings are accompanied by physical complaints such as elevated blood pressure, increased heart rate, muscle tension, sweating, and shaking.
